Well in case anyone cares, the reason why this blog has been less than interesting lately is because Fuji TV is evil and refuses to do things like SHOW NEW EPISODES OF OP! Why? Because they are evil. In fact, I don't even get a new issue of OP in Shonen Jump because Oda needs a vacation or some weak excuse like that. Just kidding, Odacchi! Jodan desu!
It's not fair. Not that the final 'Croc gets his ass kicked' ep wasn't good. It was great - but this whole "I'll be waiting in antici-....say it, say it!...pation!" thing is driving me nuts.
Anyway I am stuck, waiting in anticipation for the next episodes which will feature - Cobra's speech to the dumb subjects, Tashigi and Smoker finally meet again, the first appearance of [Love] Hina, and the long awaited Happy Naked Time Onsen Scene. Because we all want to see naked pirates. Yeah? Hell yeah.
I only hope that TV has relaxed its morals enough to let the full scene play. Not that the scene in the manga shows anything - but still. I would hate for it to be editted - or even worse - for it to be omitted altogether! Oh gawd no please anything but that! And they have to do something to explain the sudden reappearance of Jango and Fullbody and why they are friends. That is very important!
Oh, the loose ends are killing me here. I'm going to make myself a drink to calm my nerves.

When I think of Sanji, and I`m not saying that I go around thinking of Sanji all day or anything, I think of music. I think of a couple of types in fact. First off I think of swing, jazz, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, big bands with a crap load of brass, and a smokey cocktail lounge where the decor is decidedly retro and the drinks are all martinis. That is what I think about first.
And inexorably my mind is then drawn to Nelly`s "Hot in Here." I can`t help it! It just is!
I`m going to go hae a lie down now.

Avast Mateys - 'tis 'Talk like a Pirate Day!' Are you man enough to talk like a corsair - or shall you be walkin' the plank like the others?
Argh, but the scurvy dogs at the BOE said I couldn't be talkin' like meself today! Them landlubbers wanted 'proper' English - pirate talk ain't good enough for 'em! But I hoodwinked those bloodless jellyfish. When me laddies studied pronunciation, I slipped in a few piratey 'Arrrr!'s in there. "'Ha-aaaaarrrrrr-d!' Say it like you got a cutlass clamped in your mouth, laddies! 'Ha-aaaarrrrrrrr-d!" Ha, them fancy pants gentleman at the BOE can't keep me from being a pirate! ARRRRGHHHH!
So, mates and scurvy dogs alike, shiver your timbers and keel your hauls! Talk like a Pirate Day! Don't forget it - or you'll be sleepin' in Davey Jones' locker - with the rest of the Monkees!

Amor mio,
amor mio, por favor,
Tu no te vas.
Yo contraria las horas, yabena bayo.
No quieres recordar.
No quieres recordar.
Volverei.
(No volverei no volverei no volverei)
No quereis recordar.
No quieres recordar. I have a long involved theory on the ancestory of Zoro concerning what nationality would he be were he living on our world. Even though Oda has said that there it no correlation between nationalities on our world and the OP world, I must say that I believe Zoro is Spanish gypsy.
And this song fits perfectly in the Zoro/Kuina/Tashigi story. It is sung by the Gipsy Kings about love lost, love that will not return, and the pain of remembering.
Oh my love
Oh my love, please,
Don’t leave me.
I will count the hours until you return.
Return to me.
(I will not return. I will not return.)
I don’t want to remember.
I don’t want to remember.
The singer cannot help but remember the happiness he had with his love but the pain that awaits him when he must return to the present is unbearable. Return to me, he begs of his love, but her spirit answers, I will not return. He says softly, I don’t want to remember. I don’t want to remember.
I have a habit of watching OP and playing CDs at the same time. Whether by chance or serendipity (or the fact I had this CD in my player for weeks), I was listening to it during the fateful ep. when Tashigi and Zoro first met. And the line played…I don’t want to remember…as Zoro crushed Tashigi’s glasses. And ever since then, when I think of angst and OP, I think of this song and the plaintive gypsy voice that begs the memory of his love to leave him be, to stop forcing him to remember the good times, and how those good times will never be again, in the same way that Zoro can’t stand Tashigi for having the face of his friend and reminding him of times that cannot be.
I want a girl who uses a machete to cut through red tape,
with fingernails that shine like justice,
and a voice that is dark like tinted glass.
She is fast, thorough, and sharp as a tack.
She is touring the facility and picking up slack.
I want a girl with a short skirt and looooooooooong jacket. I live in a world of music, image, and words – I cannot separate the three. I have a song for every mood, every person I know, and of course, for almost every OP character. It may be the music, the words, the band’s off stage hijinks, or the mood the song conveys that strikes me and reminds me of a character. If I am inspired with an idea for a character or arc video while listening to the music, then that is the signal that the song will be a ‘theme.’ I know that many people would disagree with my choices – but this is all about personal feeling, so they are entitled to their opinions.
I’ve worshipped OP for a year and have one and million ideas for videos – unfortunately I don’t have the one and million dollars needed for the equipment to make the said videos. Instead I will post my ideas, notes and general song ramblings here.
The lyrics are from ‘Short Skirt, Long Jacket’ by Cake. The music is smooth, the lyrics are all compliments and the chorus…the chorus screams of Nico Robin. Though in recent chapters she hasn’t been wearing her Miss All Sunday get up, I will always associate her with long jackets and short skirts (with fringe!)
This blog is only about One Piece. It will be fan grrl ravings, comments on the anime and manga, which means spoilers, and general comments and opinions. This is meant for enjoyment - mostly mine, but others have my permission to enjoy it if they wish.
However, I am breaking my first rule immediately. Today is not the day to discuss pirates. The first entry will be about something more serious.
I am alone in my house now. It is almost ten o clock. At nine thirty I was looking through my music for a song that was a fitting tribute to the occurrences of last year; something that truly expressed my feelings at this time. :46 Japan Standard Time to those that died and those that lived.
Seasons of Love
from the musical RENT
Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
Five hundred twenty five thousand moments so dear
Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure - measure a year?
In daylights - in sunsets
In midnights - in cups of coffee
In inches - in miles
In laughter - in strife
In five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure
A year in the life?
How about love?
How about love?
How about love?
Measure in love
Seasons of love
Seasons of love
Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
Five hundred twenty five thousand journeys to plan
Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure the life
of a woman or a man?
In truths that she learned
or in times that he cried?
In bridges he burned
or the way that she died?
It's time now - to sing out
tho' the story never ends
Let's celebrate
Remember a year in the life of friends
Remember the love
Remember the love
Remember the love
Measure in love
Measure, measure your life in love
Seasons of love...
Seasons of love.
===============
I chose this song for many reasons; the feeling of hope and rememberance, the fact that it is from a musical based in New York, the fact that its writer died early in life, but accomplished so many things before he passed on...
This song, these words, the adominition to measure a life in love, is what 9/11 is about. Let us mourn our loss, but let us also remember those that passed before us with fond words and good deeds. Let us remember that their legacy is love and that we have a duty to carry that torch, before any other, in the years to come.
